For the information of our readers, we give below a brief account of the main personalities who are working ceaselessly day and night to assist our numerous clients in dealing with their various problems.
The man who most inevitably must head the list is Late Mr. Prem Kumar, the Ex-Chairman who has also the reputation of being the most energetic and indefatigable worker in the Agency.
It is now well-known how eighteen year old Prem Kumar who had been sent to the States to study Engineering got interested in Criminology and ended up as the first and only Indian, trained as a private detective in America and the United Kingdom.
While studying in Chicago, young Kumar took up a part time job as a Hotel Detective, during which he stumbled upon his natural talent in Detection work. He assisted the Chicago Police in rounding up a gang of hoodlums including two sisters known to the Chicago Police as the notorious Linda Sisters who were wanted for a series of crimes. Kumar’s contribution in rounding up the hardened criminals earned him considerable publicity. But what proved to be the turning point in his career was his association with Emil Smicklas of the Chicago Police who became his friend, philosopher and guide in the field of investigation. Although no less than four detective agencies offered him jobs, he preferred the offer of Sgt. Smicklas to undergo Training in Police Detection with the Chicago Police under the personal guidance of Sgt. Emil Smicklas. This training proved invaluable in his later life. After this Prem Kumar gave up all thoughts of becoming an Engineer and decided to become a full fledged Sleuth.
After his training, he was employed by Michigan Surety Company and successfully tracked down habitual criminals like George C. Miles AND Lola Curtis who had jumped bail. Within a short time he earned his badge as a recognized Detective.
As a result of his success in solving a number of difficult cases he got a very wide coverage in the Press and his photographs appeared on the cover pages of almost all popular detective magazines of the United States.
Reputed television organizations such as Columbia Broadcasting and International Broadcasting Corporation telecast him. He was later deputed to England as a Senior Investigator in the Anglo American Detective Agency. Ultimately his love for his motherland made him discard a bright career abroad and return to India with ideas of popularizing Private Investigation, which was then unheard of, in the country. Inspite of opposition from his relations, Kumar stuck to his decision to start a Private Detective Agency. In this, he was greatly encouraged by his success in solving, what came to be known as the famous Patiala Child Murder Case. Initially he started a one man Agency at Delhi under the banner of International Detective Agency in 1960, which was the precursor of the present all India Organisation. The assistance which the police received from this brilliant young man in solving a number of sensational cases, like the Mehrauli Murder Case, Taxi Driver Murder Case and others, established his reputation as the Number One Private Detective in India. Later he expanded the sphere of his activities and formed the Globe Detective Agency in 1965 as a Private Limited Company.
From 1965 to 2001, it was an uphill task for Mr Prem Kumar as well his dream child, the GDA. This was the period when Mr Prem Kumar left no stones and efforts unturned to organize, manage and expand the GDA and turn it into a finest machinery of private detection and investigation. He had a vision which was turned into reality by selecting a finest team of Officers, Investigators, Operatives and Staff who jointly forged ahead in achieving his vision. By his sheer perseverance, hard work, sincerity and with a bunch of dedicated team workers, Mr Prem Kumar expanded GDA operations from one city to another. The major expansion took place as under:
Between 1965 to 1969, Mr Prem Kumar opened three Branches one each at Calcutta, Mumbai and Chennai. The response of the market saw four more branches being opened at Bangalore, Mysore, Hyderabad and Coimbatore. The response of private investigative services and the results of good work produced by teams of Investigators were so encouraging that Mr Prem Kumar decided to open four more branches at Ahmedabad, Baroda, Pune and Vizag between 1975 – 1980 to meet the local requirement of these cities. Rising to the demand of other States and the Industry four more Branches were opened in Madurai, Tirupur, Pondicherry and Lucknow between 1980 – 1985. Thus with a solitary branch in 1965 with one man army, Mr Prem Kumar rose to the needs of time and turned GDA into a huge and finest network of 16 Branches consisting of more than 100 Senior Officers and a work force of more than 6,000 including Senior Investigators and Operatives. Along with Investigation and Detective Services, Mr Prem Kumar also launched operations for producing Security Guards to a large number of Industrial Units. Today, except for Kerala, Maharashtra and West Bengal, GDA has a large force of exclusive and well trained security guards manning Security and Fire Alarm Services in some of the most prestigious industrial units of various States in the Country.
Mr Prem Kumar’s another unique quality was that he looked and thought ahead of times while he was busy in expanding detective and investigation services in other cities by opening new Branches and Regional Offices. He also realized the growing need of industry in terms of Security and Fire Safety. This gave birth to his yet another new venture Globe Fire and Security Alarm Systems resulting in emergence of Globe’s Electronic Division located at Bangalore in 1983-85. Today, Globe is proud to have its own R&D Wing, Production Shop, Quality Assurance and Machine Shop and offers State of the art Electronic Security Systems.
